January 2005,This is our second visit to this hotel. Very friendly staff, excellent breakfast and the dinner menu although not cheap is very good . service in the dining room was particulary good . 10 minutes walk and you are in Las Ramblas or the port. Rooms basis but very clean. We'll be back !!

Fine, clean, basic, cheap hotel. Fairly centrally located and 100m from the Paral-lel metro station. Lifts to bedrooms, but only stairs to breakfast room, which sometimes got very crowded with tour parties.

There is no airco in the hotel although it is mentioned on the website. Always a lot of noise at night, like the slamming of doors etc.

My wife and I share 4th July as our birthday. We chose to go to Barcelona for a long weekend - to see the sights, eat well and drink (hey!, we're English). We wanted a CHEAP, CLEAN, CENTRAL and FRIENDLY hotel. We found it in Auto Hogar. YES it's noisy outside (It's a major city!) but on the plus side the breakfast is plentiful and can set you up for a long day of sight seeing. Straight outside of the hotel is a Metro station from which you can also catch the funicular. The bar just outside and to the right is ok and open until 3am (2am Sunday), so you can head out for the night and have a nightcap right on your doorstep. Day staff were great (although the maid walked in and interrupted my wife and I having a 'quiet' moment together). I will though be booking here again.

We stayed at the hotel for three night at the standard double room. The hotel's location was very good, near the ramblas and the harbour. Although the location was central getting to sleep wasn't difficult. There wasn't any noise. The hotel was old fasioned but ok. The room was simple but clean. Espesially the bathroom was very nice and lately renovated. The cleaner woman came every day, one day knocked and opened the door before we haven't even noticed the knocking. Well, doesn't matter. The hotel staff as a whole was kind but not so speakefull. At reception they spoke as much they needed to. Maybe their language skills weren't the best? The breakfest was basic but good, the variety of the juices was good: atleast pineapple, apple and orange. We would recommend the hotel for people who don't need luxory or anything extra from the hotel.

Overall the Auto-Hager was a good two star hotel. The sleeping and bath rooms were of adequate size. There was always plenty of hot water for showers. The hotel was on a busy street, but the room was relatively quiet due to double paned windows. The air conditioning kept the room very cool. The room was cleaned daily to a very acceptable level. The breakfasts were more than adequate and were served in the adjacent restuarant. You do have to pay a slight fee for a lockbox for your valubles, if you want one. We had the unfortunate experience of losing our lock box key to a pickpocket, and the hotel was very understanding and only changed us a very minimal fee (15.00 euros) for a replacement key and box. If there was downside it was the 10-15 minute walk that was needed to get to the La Rambla.

Our stay was for one week, 6/04/04 - 13/04/04 on the 6th floor. Our room was to the back & looked out over Barcelona. We were very impressed by the hospitality & friendliness of the staff. The room was comerfortable and clean & we got a nice selection of food for breakfast. The hotel is central in Barcelona & outside was the Metro if you needed it for enjoying the City & Countryside. We would definitely recommend it. Good Value & we hope to return again soon. Cheers.

the Hotel was what we had been looking for. The most important for us was that the hotel was in the central of Barcelona, because we like to be where people and activities are.

Reasonable value low cost accomodation. Excellent location with a metro station almost outside the door and La Ramblas is only five to ten minutes on foot. Good restaurant and tapas bar attached and the buffet breakfast had something for everyone. The noise was the problem. Having been forewarned, we asked for a quiet room and were given what had to be the noisiest room available. The traffic was loud despite double glasing and we were at the wrong end of a long corridor where everyone had to pass our door. Worse yet, other guests spent the early hours screaming, slamming and banging on doors, and running up and down. We asked to be moved but, despite our protestations, the staff flat out refused. I simply don't believe that moving was, as they said, "impossible". The hotel has a HUGE turnover of guests with seemingly constant coachloads of new arrivals. Rooms are poorly soundproofed. Spoken converations of neighbouring rooms can be heard clearly. Low cost means compromise so I wouldn't say it's poor value but I'll be staying somewhere else next time.

Stayed at Auto Hogar from 24th to 27th March 2004. Perfect for an inexpensive short stay - bedroom & bathroom adequate and very clean & comfortable. Would have liked an English speaking channel on our TV, say CNN, Sky News or the BBC. Breakfast great - and delicious. Location excellent - close to Las Ramblas and bus & metro services. Only complaint noisy women coming in late on Friday night with no consideration for those already asleep. Would recommend you to others.

The hotel is well placed, An easy 10 minute walk to the Ramblas but its right next to the metro for when your feet ache! Breakfast was good, staff helpful, rooms simple but clean and comfortable. There were downsides, our room was in the annex and the window had frosted glass so you could not see out. There were no hairdryers in the room although the hotels description said there were. We tried to use our kettle and it made the electrics trip out - the lady on the desk said hairdryers would do thw same! Looking at the whole picture we would stay here again.

A good thing about the comments we have read from others was the advise to take earplugs. We did that and we needed them ! Although we were put in the back of the hotel it wasn't too quiet at all. There were quite a few schoolkids around and their noise wouldn' t have been a problem if the acoustics at the hotel would have been much better. You can even hear people one floor below (or up) turing a key, that's how noisy it can be. However, it didn't spoiled our trip at all, you just should be warned by the fact that it isn't particularly quiet. The hotel was simple, clean and if you walk just one street, you are in the heart of Barcelona (Ramblas). The breakfast at the hotel was better than expected. We really wanted to be in the centre of Barcelona at a convenient price (< Euro 100,-). Bearing this in mind, this hotel is a good option.

29.10.2003 klaus globig (germany)
We can recommand the hotel. Its clean, the bathroom new. The only disturbing noise came from other guests, when they returned in the night and clashed the doors. Good breakfast! We will come again.

17.10.2003 Veikko and Karen (Canada)
Hotel was very good value, with good size rooms, and in a very good central location. Great breakfast staff friendly. Only minor complaint was the "hum" from the central air con. From what I could see this only affected a few rooms, and it just so happened that our room was one of those.

29.09.2003 Stig (Norway)
We had a pleasant stay at the hotel. Noisy outside, but I was prepared and brought earplug with me - then it was no problem. Friendly staff, spoke english as well. Breakfast ok, but went out of heat dishes and then it took all to long to replace it (as in the most hotels) - but I was satisfied however. The area is not the most typical tourist area, but it is very close to the Subway, and 10 min to the Rambla.

26.09.2003 Moira (Staffordshire)
We had a great stay, comfortable and clean hotel, helpful and friendly staff and a nice selection for breakfast.

Nice Hotel. Clean rooms and friendly staff. Very noisy all night long -- bring earplugs or don't go to bed until exhausted. Good location.

19.09.2003 Ruud Dirksen (Amsterdam - NL)
Nice hotel with friendly and helpfull English speaking staff. The breakfast is excellent, cereals+yoghurt, various sorts of bread, fruitjuices etc, but also scambled eggs toast and bacon. The single rooms are basic and not too spatious, but clean and have toilet + shower. The noise of the very busy paral.lel street does not reach the rooms at the rear end of the hotel, ensuring a good nights sleep. My room was on the 1st floor directly above the kitchen, whose noise woke me up at 7am, but being in Barcelona for a conference this was the moment to get up anyhow ;-)

18.09.2003 Karen (Denmark)
Nice, well located hotel with friendly staff. Bedlinen and bathroom very clean. Breakfast was not gourmet, but plentiful. Due to the noise from the street we asked for a room facing the yard and had no trouble sleeping. The area is OK. Not too many tourists. We enjoyed the stay very much.

27.08.2003 Suzanne (London)
I had to be near the port as I had a 7 am ferry to catch. The hotel was perfect as it was only 10 minutes walk away. I missed out on breakfast as it started at 7. The room was not too cramped for a single, bed a good size and comfortable, linen crisp white. Bathroom small but clean, shower worked just fine, and so did the AC. All in all it did the job perfectly.

19.08.2003 iainmc (england)
ideal location hotel clean breakfast poor(but eat as much as you like)very good all round for the price only drawback is the very loud traffic noise all night if you have a balcony onto the front road

17.08.2003 Niki (Delft, Netherlands)
My husband and I enjoyed a four night stay in Hotel Auto-Hogar: clean, simple rooms, airconditioned. good breakfast, helpful staff. Tip: buy a Barcelonacard the airport or tourist information offices) for 1 or more days. With that card you have access for all city transport (metro: in fromt of hotel, and buses) and upto 50% discount in museas!

28.07.2003 sayadeh (sweden)
we enjoyed our stay there, a very good hotel for a reasonable price . the air condition is a must in July. It worked very well. the breakfast was very good, I really agree with the comments by Prathab from London!!!

24.07.2003 Prathab (London)
I stayed in a triple room at the hotel. The room I had was clean and air-conditioned and the bathroom is well maintained. The cleaners clean the room every day. The breakfast offered was excellent and I found it was a great way to kickstart the day. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Las Ramblas is 10mins walk from the hotel. It's not the Hilton hotel....but if you're looking for a safe clean hotel with good facilities then I would recommend this hotel.

22.07.2003 Andrea (UK)
Really friendly and obliging staff, we had a great little room at the front of the hotel with a balcony, perfect for pre-ramblas drinks! Clean and basic room, great for the price and location. Would definitely recommend it.

21.07.2003 hilde (belgium)
it was very interesting to have a carpark in the hotel. The room was basic but clean. The staff was friendly and helpfull. The location of the hotel is very good.

14.07.2003 Ed (Stratford (UK))
Good, simple, value for money hotel with a very convenientlocation. Our room at the back was quiet and the air conditioning was much appreciated. Breakfast was fine with a choice of hot and cold food. Enjoyed the atmosphere with guests from all over Europe, North America and Australasia.

13.07.2003 David (UK)
Nice hotel, centrally situated. Rooms are basic, but clean and air conditioned. Good breakfast with plenty of selection. Some run-down streets on route to Las Ramblas but no real problems. Excellent choice for low cost visit to Barcelona.

12.07.2003 Mike (UK)
Nice large room with balcony only drawback was shower as couldn't stop flooding whole room. Everything worked, the service was good and the breakfast buffet excellent. Auto-Hogar had a pleasant atmosphere. Although the location was great, near to the efficient metro, it was noisy as road is busy and Barcelona was hosting Harley Davidson convention when we were there. Really good value.

09.07.2003 Andy (Mumbai)
The first room we were given was terrible, where the air-conditioning did not work well. For the next 2 days we were moved to a much nicer room. OK hotel. Dont expect luxury and you wont be disappointed. Great location though.

08.07.2003 jempiz (belgium)
a good hotel and full functioning airco good service and well situated so a good place to stay

03.06.2003 Ki (USA)
I stayed for 4 nights at the end of May. Location was very good. Room was small, but good enough as all I really needed was a place to sleep. Breakfast was not bad. I wouldn't eat their scrambled egg though... it had bitter taste, but rest of the food was OK. For its price, I thought the room was little too expensive, but then I think other hotels in that area were more expensive, so I guess I paid more for a fairly good location. People at the front desk do speak English. You should leave your room key with them when you go out because their key is huge, and I do mean HUGE! Making a local call costed me 1 Euro (not bad). My stay in this hotel was good overall.

26.05.2003 Kathy Robertson (Edinburgh)
Good hotel, central, clean, friendly staff. Could be a problem with noise if hotel is very busy due to thin walls!Breakfast is excellent! Would recommend this hotel.

20.05.2003 Kostia (Italy)
Very nice and cheap! Just 5 minutes by walk from Rambla and 50 meters from Parallel Metro Stop and Montjuic Funicular!

20.05.2003 Andi (Zurich, Switzerland)
Nice rooms, good breakfast buffet, friendly stuff, but on the 1st floor - heavy noise from the traffic.

Sorry I don't speak good english.

09.01.2003 pupo (italy)
clean, easy to find, near to centre, cheap! gteatest solution for low money travel.

09.01.2003 Carol (Brazil)
The hotel was average. The breakfeast was very good including a lot of variety, but when it get busy the re-stock is done on time. I had a problem when i arrived as my reservation was in a twin bed room and i asked for a double bed. They changed the room, but was a very cold room, we had to sleep with a lot of clothes every night as the window was broken. After 2 nights they offered us other room and repaired the window. The service was really good excluding the day of check out. As my flight was at 22:00 i asked if i could have a shower before leave and slepp a bit more as was the 01/01/03 and the room was going to be available after that. They sad no, so i was very tired the whole day as i slept for 3 hours only. The location is central but to get to La Rambla we had to walk throuhgt a very unsafe street, was quite scary, and i know what an unsafe place is. Was not a very good stay but i must say that Barcelona was beautiful!
