this hotel is excellent. i can't recommend it enough to those on a budget but want to stay somewhere decent. the rooms are new and clean and the location is perfect. its 2 mins from the ramblas and near to the metro. its a little lively but nothing to compalin about. this hotel gets 10 out of 10!

Location perfect, hotel OK except a little noisy last 2 nights- too many young Italian students. The 3 day Mercy festival Sept 2004 was great. Surprisingly for a big city felt quite secure until the last day when I was pickpocketed @10.45 AM less than 5 minutes from the hotel - just around the corner in the main boulevard. (The old squirt your back trick next to a building site.)Lucky only lost cash. JIMBO

Excellent location. Newly decorated corridors and rooms on 3rd floor and new double glazing in room. Tiny room, but had all the essentials. Ask at reception for haidryer and safe key..Unlimited breafast, but little to choose from.Recommend a tweo day bus ticket, red route and blue route from pl de catalunya.

14.06.2004 Keith and Margaret Anderson (Edinburgh, Scotland)
This hotel has a host of aspects to recommend it to others. It is on the bus route from the airport (just ask the driver to drop you at Universidad Square and the hotel is a minute away). It is only a few minutes by foot from Las Ramblas and on the doorstep is the stop for the Barcelona bus tours. Internally it is clean and respectable with comfy beds and a lovely continental breakfast. Highly recommended and we will certainly be back.

11.06.2004 Mary (USA)
This hotel is perfectly located in the center of Barcelona. It's a haven for students, so it is somewhat noisy, but it is reasonably clean, and the staff is friendly. We'd stay in it again.

05.06.2004 adan (Israel)
We enjoyed staying in this hotel. Situated in a central place. A satisfying breakfast. Prefer the 4th floor with view to the street.

26.05.2004 John M. (Seattle, WA USA)
We were very pleased with the hotel for a number of reasons: The efficiency and friendliness of the staff; the perfect location - tour bus stop at the front door, great restaurant on ground floor, 2 blocks from main Tourist Information Office and the top end of 'Las Ramblas'. Would recommend this hotel to our friends and believe Barcelona has to be listed as one of the great, 'must see' cities in the world.

Basic hotel, clean sheets, bathroom etc but AWFUL room -don't have No 342 as it faces inwards, onto an airless shaft so is dark, stuffy and depressing. Breakfast adequate, staff nice and helpful, and FABULOUS location, just a few minutes walk from Catalunya Square. Feeling a bit disoriented and having to guess at the weather from not having a window to look out of, we wandered straight out of the hotel and on to the orange tourist bus waiting outside. Overall fairly content as this hotel was a very good base.

30.03.2004 Ian and Karen (Newcastle, UK)
We found the staff friendly and one guy on the front desk very helpful and very funny! Our room on the fourth floor had a great view and was very clean. No charge for key for room safe. Hotel is only one block away from the top of La Rambla and at the German bar almost next door we were served good food and cheap beer by friendly staff. We will use the hotel and Sasha again.

20.03.2004 Liz & Brian (Scotland)
Great location, basic but clean accommodation, helpful staff - what more could you ask for.

24.02.2004 Vinzenz NoguÊs (Basel, Switzerland)
Good quality in relation to price. Good standard of rooms and pleasant service at frontdesk. Not so in the breakfast room: quite unfriendly; they seem to be stressed out.

08.02.2004 Bob & Ruth (Suffolk UK)
For a 2 star the hotel was good. We did find the breakfast room (on the second floor) - adequate, you could eat as much as you wanted. We didn't spend too much time in the hotel - there is too much to see and do in Barcelona. The time we spent there was fine for a tourist hotel. No complaints at all. We would go back there, and probably will next time we go to Barcelona. The hotel is very well located, being close to the heart of the city.

29.01.2004 Simon (UK)
Hotel was just what we wanted, excellent location with bars just around the corner where we met. Slight walk to more bars but no-one bothered too much. hotel basic but we didnt spend any time there only used for sleep. no-one saw breackfast so cant comment on that. price was reasonable, wouldnt have wanted anything more expensive or cheaper.

06.01.2004 kerr (scotland)
this hotel had an excellent location close to the metro and only short walk from las ramblas. it is currently being rennovated floors 1 and 2 are done so ask for a room on these levels.

12.11.2003 Mike & Kay O'Grady (Shropshire England)
The hotel was all it said it was, clean, comfortable and centrally located. We found the buffet style breakfast perfectly acceptable, with as much or as little as you wanted, although the coffee left something to be desired - or is that all spanish coffee? You do need to get used to the traffic noise, it rarely stops. Brilliant location, 2 minutes walk from Las Ramblas or Place Catalunya & 30 minutes from the airport by bus (at 3,4 euros each very good value) The open top city tour buses were great fun, even in October! Brilliant restuarants all around the area. Well done Condestable, we will use you again. Mike & Kay October 03

12.11.2003 Giovanni A. Battiston (Padania (Italy))
The hotel have only 2 stars, but the duty was perfect, the people was very kind. The cleaning, TV, heating of the room were perfect. Moreover the hotel is located near the centre of the city (Barri Gotic, Ramblas..) ...very useful to spend some time after work. Thank a lot Best Regargs Giovanni

07.11.2003 The Walkington's (Bloomington IL - USA)
All that is said in the discription of the hotel is true. Good restaurants are very close by and the city tour bus stops just outside the door. Would recommend buying a two day pass and then you can get on and off the double decker bus to see the many sights in Beautiful Barcelona. Our room was comfortable, on the front and not unusually noisy. It included a very nice bath. Can't beat the location!

01.11.2003 Gordon (Belgium)
The location is great, 5 minutes from Plaça de Catalunya and La Rambla. verything is close by. For a budget holiday this hotel is hard to beat, air conditioning, reasonable breakfeast and confortable beds. Just what tourists need. The only drawback is the busy Ronda del al Universitat street, But with airco most of noise is kept outside. Great deal for the location

27.10.2003 Julie (Bristol, England.)
This hotel certainly was right in the heart of the city and while conveniently situated for La Rambla, it would not be my first choice for return. The bedrooms were very basic but VERY clean. Earplugs are an absolute necessity as the walls are not paper thin but TISSUE paper thin. The hotel was undergoing some renovations while we were there (Oct 2003) Waking up to the sound of a cement mixer outside our bedroom door was not the best wake up call one could wish for. The staff are polite but not overly friendly but as it was the city we wanted to visit, this didn't bother us at all. I wouldn't agree with these rooms being well equipped - there were two beds, 1 TV and wardrobe space as well as the ensuite...... nothing else. There are better hotles in the area but for the price you cannot go far wrong with the Condestable.

26.10.2003 Lorna (Hertfordshire)
A clean, tidy hotel, helpful staff, Good breakfast, and really great for seeing the town.

23.10.2003 Liz (London)
I'd agree with what's been said before - the best thing was the location (couldn't have been better) and the worst thing was the noise (got woken up by drunk people singing outside at 6am). Also I had booked a room with a double bed and got a room with 2 singles - we were able to move rooms the next day, but it was a bit of a pain. Barcelona was wonderful though - can't wait to go back!

20.10.2003 Bent Nørby Bonde (Denmark)
The hotel was well located, the rooms according to price and the staff friendly. A few hick ups. They forgot to place a flower and a cava in each room as they had promised. I bought it and they ended up placing it all in my own room. Also I think they should have been aware that they kept my passport for 4 days without giving it back. Anyway I should have controlled it before leaving. But generally all right and with a very friendly café Estudiantes as neighbour.

18.10.2003 Paul Topping (Chorley, England)
Stayed here in October 2003. The rooms were basic but very clean. Obviously, I can only comment for the bed that I slept in, but I found it very uncomfortable. Another bad point for the traveller could be the noise of the traffic and people outside (if you are in a balcony room). However, I am not a fussy traveller and do not expect all the comforts of home when in another country. As already stated, the Condestable is very clean and tidy. The noise and the uncomfortable bed can be made bearable by visiting the many bars nearby and taking in lashings of beer (well recommended). Superbly situated for the Ramblas. The City Tour bus (again recommended) makes its first stop virtually outside the front door of the hotel. I have stayed in several 'cheap' city centre hotels in different countries, and by and large, this was one of the better ones.

17.10.2003 Bigi und Waldi (Germany)
Das Hotel ist sehr zentral gelegen. Das Zimmer war o.k., sehr sauber. Das FrØhstØck kÃnnte besser sein.

13.10.2003 Laura (Bristol)
Basic rooms but clean and comfortable and very conveniently situated.

11.10.2003 Charles and Gail Davis (Brighton, England)
Nice, clean, simple, reasonably priced hotel in a convenient location to explore the centre of Barcelona. Room was plain but adequate, with a comfortable bed and a very nice bathroom. Efficient if rather impersonal service. We'd definitely recommend this to anyone who just wants a basic hotel.

11.10.2003 annette (glasgow)
nice hotel and good location

07.10.2003 Steve & Fay (Leicester UK)
We had a great stay in Barcelona. The hotel was just as we expected, very clean and ideally located. The staff were friendly and helpful, we will use this hotel again on our next visit to this beautiful city.

05.10.2003 mags (ireland)
We liked the location of the hotel, very central to everything. Very close to La Rambla. Very easy to get public transport, get on the tourist bus which was great value. The room was just as we had requested with 3 single beds, air conditioning and a safety deposit box. Lovely bathroom. Room was cleaned and towels changed every day which was great. Air conditioning was badly needed as it would have been too hot otherwise. It was very noisy but with windows closed, hardly noticeable. Breakfast was fine, adequate for our needs. We found the staff on reception not too friendly, one in particular whom we met on arrival which disappointed us. Overall it suited our needs.

22.09.2003 Pam Naidoo (UK)
The hotel was pretty good but the single rooms were disappointing - too cramped and dingy. Instructions on how the air con worked wold have been useful. The triples and double were good sized though. Good location - missable breakfast - good hotel reception staff - very friendly and helpful. Would use you again for a booking to Barcelona.

11.08.2003 Giedrius Bagdonas - Fireman Olympics (Lithuania)
We had the excellent time in Barcelona, in Hotel Condestable. We understood the truth of the words" Barcelona is a city that is inconceivable until you get there, unbelievable while you walk its streets and unforgetable after you've gone." The Staff of the hotel is friendly, the location of the hotel is great. Maybe the perfect staying in H.Condestable let us to won the gold in the Games. Thank You. Sincerely Yours, Giedrius Bagdonas

05.08.2003 Gayle and Paul (London)
Well, we found it really difficult to locate the hotel, but once we did we were pleased to see it was in a great location, right by the Rambalas. Unfortunatly theres no parking, apart from v.expensive underground car park opposite. This cost us £28 for two days which was unexpected. I wish I had been told that a P by the hotel does not neceesarily mean that parking is provided. Otherwise the hotel was clean & air conditioned which was good as very noisy with windows open. Brekfast was very good, worth getting up early for. Go on the orange tour bus, well worth the money!

30.07.2003 Any (Finland)
Without air-co. stay would have been nightmare!(out temp. +40C) You could forgive anything becouse of that; small rooms, dirty aisle, repairing noise.Situation perfekt! Brekfast better than nothing. Little too expencive for standar...but citstay! : )

29.07.2003 Michele (Weston-super-Mare)
This is very basic Hotel which is not cheap, but the rooms are clean and comfy. The breakfast is definately missable. The position of the hotel is Good. You need to hope there are not noisey people in the next room as the walls are thin, all in all concidering the ammount of time we spent in the room it was fine.

11.07.2003 Sue & Stuart (Derby, England)
Excellent location, room very clean, air conditioning was perfect, breakfast adequate. Hotel staff very pleasant and helpful. Most enjoyable stay in this wonderful city. Would recommend it to friends taking a short city break.

10.07.2003 scott (usa)
great. very helpful at desk. very satisfied. would stay again

09.07.2003 Niemeijer (The Netherlands)
Nice hotel. The room was not so big, but clean and comfortable. The personel was friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good.

08.07.2003 declan doyle (gorey, co wexford)
Hotel in an excellant location, and airconditioning was fantastic given the heat. but the only thing was they they say that they have PARKING but they dont which was a bit of a bummer as we were on motor bikes otherwise great value

04.07.2003 Alison (London)
The Condestable really suited our needs. It was very central located just off Placa Catalunya. We found it really easy to walk to all the main sights. The room was very clean and fresh with twin beds as we had requested. The air conditioning was a real godsend. A note about noise pollution in Barcelona - you would need triple glazing to block it all out so we didn't let the all night sirens and honking of horns affect us. Secure left luggage facilities were also available which was really important to us. Don't forget to try the German-run tapas 2 doors down from the hotel. Exceptional tapas and much better value than anywhere in the Barri Gotic - there were only Spanish people in there so they should know something! Overall, the Condestable is ideal as a base when the main aim is to explore this amazing and beautiful city.

03.07.2003 Wolfgang (Germany)
Very nice place, good service, clean and very central for any activity at day or night. I will come back as soon as possible.

30.06.2003 John Boy (Chester in the UK)
Exactly what is says, two star no more and no less, Great for a budget holiday, five mins walk from La Ramblas, 15 mins from the beach. Very clean, staff were friendly and helpful. Dont expect any frills, basic room with bed, TV, Telephone and bathroom (could do with a refurb) but what do you want for your money and only two stars. I would use again if considering a budget holiday, but I would also consider paying a few Euros more and going for 3 stars. My only downfall was car parking.... there wasnt any and we had to use the national car park at 21 Euros per day. Add that to the hotel cost and you come up to the price that some of the 3 star Hotels that had their own car parks were charging, but then the Condestable hotel is only 5 mins walk from La Ramblas, cant have every thing I guess. Cant complain, it met what was described, just dont expect any more and dont set your standards to high. To sum up we had a great time and got what we paid for, dont think I would feel the same if I had stayed longer than 4 nights though. By the way thanks Sasha, it was so simple booking with you and I will most definitely use you again..

28.06.2003 Agnes (Hong Kong)
Excellent Location to all tourist attractions.

27.06.2003 Ingrid (The Netherlands)
It was a nice and clean hotel. Very nice situated in the centre of Barcelona. A perfect stay for our three-day trip in thecity.

26.06.2003 A. Dorrestein (U.S.A.)
My husband and one teenage son stayed at this hotel for three nights in mid-june. We found it to be very adequate in all aspects. The location is perfect and within walking distance of transportation. The continental breakfast is simple but substantial and offering good choices. The rooms are clean and surprisingly quiet despite the downtown location. We would recommend this hotelto other friends planning to travel to Spain.

09.06.2003 Bob and Carol RAE (Coventry,England)
Hotel perfectly placed, just 150 metres from top of The Rambla. Clean comfortable room. Air con was essential and road noise not too bad. lively area without being over the top. Breakfast usual continental but good quality and eat as much as you like. We will definately stay here again..

06.06.2003 Andrew (Washington England)
The Condestible is a basic but perfectly acceptible hotel for those wishing to visit Barcelona. Access to the town centre by foot and to the excellent metro system couldn't be easier. My wife Julie and I have no complaints whatsoever.

04.06.2003 Denis & Fiona O'Driscoll (London)
Very good budget hotel with good, clean, accommodation. Excellent location a few yards from the Universitat Aerobus stop and opposite the Metro station. The only negative point about the hotel is the noise. The traffic is 24hrs and the windows don't do a brilliant job of blocking it out. If you accept this and consider earplugs as recommended in an earlier comment (we didn't), you should not be disappointed. Give it a try!

28.05.2003 Eugene Clarke (Upper Largo,Scotland)
My wife and I recently spent four nights at the Hotel Condestable and found it a very pleasant experience indeed. The reception staff were very helpful and immediately changed our room when we indicated gently we were a bit disappointed with it - although we probably would have accepted the original. The room we got (200) had a very impressive bathroom and was cleaned etc every day. The hotel location is great and although next to a busy square we didn't find it too noisy. Get the airport bus and get off at University Square. Wtih your back to the bus go left and cross at the lights. The hotelis 10 metres from there. If you pass the Jamaica coffee house you're three metres from it back the way! Enjoy

27.05.2003 Rosemary (England)
Clean room and very basic. No hairdryer despite the symbol indicating there would be one. No plugs so difficult to use washbasin and could not use shower/tiny bath as anything other than a shower. Extremely noisy not only because of the outside traffic, but internal too. Telephone in halll rang about 5.00 am daily and staff shouting at each other in the early hours. Would probably stay somewhere more expensive and therefore quieter and better location. Loved Barcelona, the people and the Sangria!

22.05.2003 Joan & Kath (Tyneside, UK)
Hotel everything as described - central, very clean, breakfasts plain but more than adequate. Would stay here again - very reasonably priced for a city centre hotel that is easy to reach from the airport (using the frequent airport bus) and puts most of the city attractions within walking distance. Nice bars & cafes on each side as well. Perfect experience.

20.05.2003 Pippa (London)
Well, it's all about location!! This hotel is excellent in that respect. We did have to change rooms on arrival as the first was very noisy and in need of some refurbishment. The staff were very helpful, and moved us to a quiter room on the 5th floor (which faced into the centre of the hotel with only one small window!). The breakfast was fine, and sweets on reception fab!! I would definitely stay here again.

20.05.2003 Cohen 69 (Leiderdorp, Netherlands)
Condestable is a perfect hotel if you visit Barcelona just for fun. It is easy to find (the bus from the airport stops around the corner), near the centre (Ramblas) and open all night. The rooms are ok

18.05.2003 Trevor (Kent)
Excellent 2 star Hotel. We had a room on the second floor facing the street. Rooms are well insulated against noise, but if you are a light sleeper you could be bothered by early morning traffic. The rooms are clean, but the bathroom was small (how much time do you spend in there?)Otherwise it's location, location, location!!!!

13.05.2003 Diane (Derbyshire)
Hotel very basic. Every morning you wake up thinking that the walls need painting!! We had a room overlooking nothing but the lift - and 2 out of the 4 nights were perfect - not a sound to be heard. The other 2 nights were filled with ignorant selfish visitors who think it is the norm to be shouting and laughing at 2 in the morning outside your rooms! However, the staff sorted that out straight away, the staff are extremely friendly and eager to please. The location is absolutely excellent. A couple of minutes walk to all central places, metro straight outside the door, the airport bus drops directly outside. The pros certainly outweigh the cons of this hotel, and we would stay again - but would bring earplugs !! Great wine bars and tapas bars on the road to Placia Gracia (2 mins walk) at extremely cheap prices (glass of wine 90 cents). A good time was had!!

08.05.2003 Leon Du Bois (Shrewsbury England)
Well pleased with this hotel. excellently situated and should be rated higher than a 2*. Very friendly and helpful staff.

06.05.2003 Matt (UK)
The Condestable is a good quality budget hotel. The staff are friendly and helpful, the rooms are clean and the location is perfect for sightseeing (there's a Metro stop virtually outside the door). The air conditioning is essential, as the rooms facing the main road can be a little noisy at night.

04.05.2003 Paul (Birmingham England)
very good, reasonably priced, clean & in a good location

02.05.2003 Karin und Ralph (Koblenz)
We stayed at the Condestable in april 03. Itґs located very central, about 5 min. to walk to the Rambla;Metrostations Linea 1 and 2 are beside the hotel; all others at Placa Catalunya, 3 min to walk; so you are able to reach all destinations very easily. The university is beneath, so there exist a lot of quite "cheap" cervezerÎas, tapas-bars and restaurants all around. Our room was nice, with view over placa de universitat. If youґre taller than 1.80 m the beds are a little bit short, but this seems to be spanish standard. We slept very well with the feet hanging out... Because of the hotel being very central we daily used the chance to refresh or change clothes between visiting the highlights of Barcelona. Breakfast was simple but very good and enough, you can eat and drink as much as you want. All in all we had a very nice stay at Barcelona and at the hotel Condestable and with the personnel being very gentle (all of them !) we immediatly felt very welcome and sure will return some day !!!

30.04.2003 Elke (Bremen)

28.04.2003 Tom Tait (London)
A brilliantly positioned hotel, walking distance from everywhere or right next to the metro. Bars and cafes literally next door. A nice unimposing atmosphere in the hotle, friendly and helpful. A great place for a weekend break.

24.04.2003 Rhonda Keys (UK)
Thank you for booking the Hotel Condestable for us. We had a fantastic time and the hotel was great for all our needs. Would definitely go back again. Thanks Rhonda Keys + friends.

24.04.2003 Rhonda Keys (Glasgow Scotland)
My friends and I stayed in the Hotel Condestable and found it to be in an ideal location for getting around Barcelona. The hotel was spotlessly clean, food good and staff very friendly. It should definitely be graded up. Would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone.

09.04.2003 dor (Cheltenham,England)
This is a great hotel to explore barcelona from.Get the aerobus from airport to universitat-then ask at any bar where the condestable is-it's very close to this stop. The hotel was very clean and comfortable and is in a superb location.Reccomend Bar Hiedelberg next door for cheep beer and tapas-and great nightclub down the road called la paloma. I cant wait to go back.

03.04.2003 Robin Parker (Fakenham UK)
Hotel Condestable very well situated in the centre of Barcelona (and surprisingly quiet considering the position). Rooms very clean and comfortable. Room service and reception very efficient and friendly. Breakfasts were rather disappointing as very little choice apart from rolls and jams.

03.04.2003 Jon & Hazel (Derbyshire)
The hotel was situated in a very convenient location, if not a bit difficult to spot. The train takes you direct from the airport to Place Catalunya and then its just a short walk away all for 2.4 euros. The hotel was basic but adequate, decent breakfast but a bit busy and small dining area. Barca was great and friendly.....enjoy it!

02.04.2003 Robin (UK)
Had a wonderful trip. Hotel Condestable was excellent.

28.03.2003 Laura & Trish (Lancashire, UK)
Just wanted to say what a top time we had in Barca, it's a gorgeous place that we'd recommend to anyone, so much to see. We can't wait to go back! The hotel itself was absolutely fine, clean and friendly, all anyone needs. the location was great and the breakfast and rooms weren't fancy, but very pleasant. We'd stay there again. Thanks for helping us have a lovely holiday!

18.03.2003 John kelly (Cambridge)
The hotel was perfect for our requirements. it was clean friendly and in the best location for exploring Barcelona. There is an open top tourist bus route which starts right outside the front door and a couple of student bars below. I recommend the Aerobus from the Airport as it is only 3 euros and stops at the Universidad which is where the hotel is situated. I would stay again.

15.03.2003 Geoff and Lynn (Eastbourne, England)
We were met at the airport by taxi (bit pricey) which took us direct to the front door of the Hotel, as this is just a narrow doorway I think we would have had a hard job finding it. The hotel room was basic, clean and all that we needed as we were out enjoying Barcelona. Breakfast was not a gastomomic feast, but plenty (a bit disconcerting that workmen Had the false cealing down and were working). On our last day we were able to leave our bags at the Hotel while we made good use of our time. We used the Easy Internet Cafe, just down the road near Place De Catalona (lots of terminals). The Aerobus is easy from near here, cheap and very good.

01.03.2003 John Bendon (South Wasles)
Central location basic but adequate breakfast. Hotel extremely clean. I would use it again, the price was great.

26.02.2003 Lotte (Denmark)
The hotel had a very convenient and central location but the room and the breakfast area was closer to my experiences of a youth hostel than of a hotel. The beds were fine, the air-condition worked and it was very clean but the door to the small balcony (with a terrible and unattractive view) couldn't be locked and the door to the bathroom was very difficult to close. We asked for a quiet room and got it (apart from the noisy ones of the other guests). Thanks for that.

19.12.2002 K Jameson (England)
The staff on reception were extremely helpful and friendly and the room was fine, but the Breakfast area staff were not friendly nor helpful. The breakfast was very poor and the coffee was like 'sludge'. Some members of staff were smoking whilst preparing food. Not good!!!!

05.12.2002 vera (netherlands)
Great budget hotel. Nice people, clean and good breakfast. Super located, close to la Rambla, subway and busstation. Ask for a quiet room and you have no noise.

05.12.2002 Scott (Flitwick, Bedfordshire, England)
Stayed for 3 nights in the Condestable. basic, Clean and friendly. Its such a busy city that we did not spend much time in the hotel so basic was all we needed. Breakfast was only cold stuff, but hey, if you are on a diet who cares! Situation of the hotel is perfect with a metro station, bus stop and cash machine all within 25 metres. I was suprised how easy it was to find and I still have hairs on my head (so could not have been that stressful). Next time I visit I will definitely consider staying here again.

Hotel met our needs very well. Price was modest. Location was excellent for transportation and Ramblas. Hotel was very clean and efficient. Breakfast was rudimentary but adequate. Would recommend to others on a tight budget who wish to stay near the city centre.

The Hotel would be ideal for wafer thin (the lobby was barely two feet wide !), stone deaf insomniacs. The location was fine, very convenient and central but must be on one of the busiest twenty four hour intersections in the city and with three lively all night student bars on the ground floor, sleep was not an option. In spite of this we did enjoy Barcelona and will return finding a quiter place to stay.

18.11.2002 Jason (London, UK)
Our room was large and reasonably clean, although it was an inward facing room and was quite dark. The main problem with the room was that the door was very thin and we could hear everybody talking, slamming doors, squeeking doors, etc. I couldn't sleep past 07:00. Next time I will bring earplugs. The breakfast was pretty good. The croissants were fresh and plentiful. The hotel staff were good. Compared to other places in Barcelona, it was average for the price. Perhaps if we had a brighter and quiter room it would have been better. But, I'd probably still use this hotel again next time I'm in Barcelona. It's a very convenient and safe location.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone on a budget. It's spotless, very central & the staff are very helpful & friendly. I would suggest it to any friends planning to visit Barcelona. It definitely surpassed my expectations.

Clean, comfortable and efficient and very well-placed, but noisy and staff do not really make one feel at home, ie. are not really friendly.

My experience, including a tip for vegetarians: The staff is friendly. I got a Spanish lesson everyday from the doorman at night. Rooms are quit small, but who wants to be in a hotelroom in such a great city!! Airco works great, enabling windows to be shut at night (keeps the noise well away!). The hotelrooms are kept very clean. For me personally from environmental point of view it is not neccesary to wash the towels everyday. The 2 guys in our company found the beds somewhat hard, but we got used quickly. Bread is fresh every morning. Being Dutchmen we brought in our own cheese. The location of this hotel is perfect; 15 minutes of walking along the Ramblas brings you in the old medieval centre. The Gaudi buildings, like Casa Batllo and Casa Mila (La Pedrera) can be quickly reached on foot. In Barcelona I actually did enjoy the Gaudi-bus-turistic service, try it too! For vegetarians: do not be surprised, even after asking, if in restaurants vegetarian means f.i. a lot of spinach but with bacon, salad with fish, or omelette with shrimps. There is, however, one great provider with no meat and no fish, really great tasting food, wines and beers and all even biological: "Comme Bio"; Via Laietania nr. 28 (incl. biological supermarket) and Gran Via nr. 603 (http://www.commebio.es )

Superb location, close to metro, las Ramblas. Clean and friendly. Breakfast area got a bit busy so we took our breakfast back to our room which was fine. Thoroughly recommend Bar/Restaurant Heidelberg, great selection of both beers and tapas and Bar Goya for very cheap drink, located on Antonio, just a few hundred yards from hotel.

I'd recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to stay in the heart of Barcelona whilst watching the pennies. The room was small but clean and tidy, the staff were friendly and helpful (apart from the grumpy breakfast waiter) and the location couldn't be better for seeing the sights - there's a metro station across the road and it's only a 3 min walk to the top of Las Ramblas and the coach stop from the airport. I'd also recommend taking earplugs as it's practically surrounded by main roads (well, it IS the city centre).

We had a very enjoyable stay in Barcelona. The Hotel was clean comfortable and the staff helpful.

15.10.2002 Mark (Dublin,Ireland)
Hotel Basic, but thats what you're paying for, along with its central location which was really really convenient. Along with being central came the traffic noise unfortunately but it wasn't too bad ,as when you're out exploring a wonderful city like Barcelona all day , I find sleeping not a problem. Hotel staff friendly enough and we had no problems here.

Condestable was perfect for my requirements. Very central, clean, good breakfast and inexpensive. Staff very friendly and helpful. Thank you for arranging everything so smoothly.

09.10.2002 Cathy (N.Ireland)
The hotel was in a superb location! I had asked for a quiet room and got one with an awful view but it was very quiet. The hotel is on a very busy road so i think other rooms may be noisy? Breakfast was fine and the rooms were cleaned well. Good value. I would go back

09.10.2002 Callum (London, UK)
Great cheap hotel. Basic like everyone says but right next the excellent jamacian coffee bar, good for breakfast. Right next to the metro too and within easy walking distance of everything that matters! Had an excellent chilled holiday.

07.10.2002 R & S (Toronto, Canada)
Hotel is in incredible location, close to Ramblas and 20 feet from subway!... Nice clean rooms (a little small for North American Standards, but then again, its Europe!)... very nice and helpful staff. Great deal!

03.10.2002 hughes (Gloucestershire England)

20.09.2002 Leopoldo Gonzalez (USA)
The trip was very nice, there is so much to see in Spain and not enough time. The hotel Condestable in Barcelona was very nice and clean and very well located just walking distance to many shopping areas and restaurants. We will get in touch with you in our future trips. Leopoldo Gonzalez

19.09.2002 J.K.Soegaard (Denmark)
Great location. Clean but very small room. Breakfast unsatisfactory.

06.09.2002 Peggy (Devon, England)
Good budget accommodation with comfortable beds, air conditioning, big bathroom and good-sized towells. Ideal situation as open top-deck tourist buses stop right outside hotel and metro station opposite and Placa de Catalunya only 6 mins walk away. Breakfast disappointing. Helpful and friendly staff. Will go again

02.09.2002 Richard (England, Sutton Coldfield)
All round good experience. The room and bathroom were adequate/good and the location was excellent with the university metro station directly opposite. Breakfast was also good (usual croissant/juice/cereal/coffee). Overall definately recommended. Also let us store our bags the day we left as we didn't fly till late..

30.07.2002 Paul Lim (Singapore)
The hotel was extremely clean, comfortable, and was located very centrally. The price was right, and I would highly recommend it!

27.07.2002 David Scott (Gullane Scotland)
A bit more basic than expected. The room was clean and comfortable however. The breakfast was fairly poor in quality but could have been improved by making small changes

19.07.2002 TheGoGirl (Orlando, FL)
Comfortable and clean hotel located in center of City. Walking distance to La Rambla Street and many eateries. Metro stop right across the street, very convenient. Only minor item is that the rooms are a little tight.

19.07.2002 Michelle (Jacksonville, Florida, USA)
Very nice clean hotel. Great location!

18.07.2002 David (Scotland)
As mentioned in the other reviews, this hotel is clean and very central. The staff are friendly and helpful. I was greeted by the chap at the reception, who recognised my accent and proceded to tell me that it was a "braw bricht moonlicht nicht the nicht". Very impressive as my grasp of Catalan cliches is non-existent. The staff also allowed us to store our bags in the hotel after we had checked out (our flight was much later in the day).

15.07.2002 Pippa (Salisbury, UK)
Functional and comfortable in a superb location - good value all round.

The hotel was very nice, simple but clean. The staff was very friendly and most helpful in providing directions to touristic sites.

Reasonable hotel, which was clean and unspectacular, situated in a very central location. The breakfast area was quite small.
