| Hotel Description |
The Hotel Mesón Castilla is a simple two-star hotel, but for those who are watching their budget, it is not only moderately priced, but also well located and offers an old-world ambiance. It is on a small side street, just off the Plaza Cataluña and steps from Barcelona's popular Las Ramblas street. The mood is set when you enter into the reception lounge, which is paneled (walls and ceiling) with a dark wood. Here you find colorful antique large wall murals, and stained-glass windows. A lighter note appears in arched windows that open off the breakfast room to a small inner garden courtyard. Each bedroom is individual in decor, but with similar furnishings of ornate painted headboards and coordinating chairs and chests. Although this is a "budget" hotel, the bathrooms are newly remodeled and the rooms all have air conditioning, mini bars, TVs, hairdryers, and direct-dial telephones. Just 50 meters from the hotel is the new museum of contemporary art (MACBA). Another bonus-there's a parking garage in the building.

| 17.04.2003 Christine Tidswell (Bradford UK) the welcome we received was warm and friendly, the food varied and tasty-
we were given a double bedded room instead of the twin beds we requested, but the reception staff offered us another bedroom straight away-- the only complaint we had , was that the second bedroom was directly above the main door of the hotel-- no 120, so beware. the banging was fairly constant, and went on into the early hours-- I suppose we should be glad it was April, and not the main tourist season It would have helped us if there had been a slow-closing mechanism, or just a quieter door! | | |
